Ever wanted to have the stars and colonies in your sci-fi setting be more than just random names with no clear connection to each other? Well, as long as you stay reasonable close to Sol there are ways for that.

            http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/starmaps/
Has some nice ideas for interstellar maps in general.

            http://www.stellar-database.com/
This one really is the best. Enter any star name. It might give you some characteristics of the star, but it isn't as good in that as some other sites - but what's more important, it will give you a list of all stars in a radius around it of your choice. That really helps you navigate through the area...

            More 3d space maps:
            http://workshop.chromeexperiments.com/stars/

But really, that one is more of a meditative experience. It's beautifully rendered, but only shows some "significant" stars...

After that, I feel a little silly only offering up one site, but here's a great resource for coming up with names, especially for a one-off character or something similar.
